Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb (shoulder or leg cuts)
- 1 cup lentils (green or brown)
- 1 cup carrots, diced
- 1 cup sweet potatoes, diced
- 2 tsp fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or parsley)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cups water or low-sodium broth
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients: Chop the lamb into small pieces, dice the carrots and sweet potatoes, and rinse the lentils.
- Sauté the lamb: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the lamb and brown lightly for about 5-7 minutes.
- Add veggies and lentils: Toss in the carrots, sweet potatoes, and lentils, stirring together for about 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the liquid: Add 4 cups of water or low-sodium broth, bring to a boil, then cover and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes.
- Stir in herbs: Five minutes before finishing, add your herbs for aroma.
- Check consistency: Add more water or broth if too thick.
- Cool and serve: Let the stew cool before serving it to your dog.
Notes
Use ground turkey or chicken as leaner protein options. Avoid adding any seasonings that may be harmful to dogs, such as garlic or onion.
