Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups diced fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- For rolling: cinnamon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pans lightly.
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and spices in a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk together sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined in another bowl, then stir in the buttermilk.
- Incorporate the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the diced apples gently, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Spoon the mixture into the donut pans, filling them about three-quarters full.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean, then allow them to cool briefly in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Roll the warm donuts in cinnamon sugar for that irresistible sweetness, if desired.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with almond or oat flour. If you’re looking for vegan alternatives, consider using flax eggs instead of eggs.
