- Fondant shapes (like ghosts, spiders, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla.
- Gradually blend the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between two greased 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
- Add food coloring until desired hues are achieved.
- Place one cake layer on a serving platter and spread a generous layer of frosting on top.
- Add the second layer and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
- Decorate with edible glitter, sprinkles, or fondant shapes to complete.
