Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef (top sirloin or roast beef)
- 4 hoagie rolls or baguettes
- 8 oz mushrooms (cremini or button)
- 2 cloves garlic (fresh, minced)
- 1 tsp fresh thyme
- 1 tsp fresh rosemary
- 4 cups beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for searing
- Cheese of your choice (e.g., provolone)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Season the beef liberally with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sear the beef in a skillet for 2-3 minutes on all sides before transferring it to the oven to cook to desired doneness.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced mushrooms and minced garlic over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Deglaze with a splash of beef broth.
- In a small saucepan, bring remaining beef broth to a gentle simmer, stirring in sautéed mushrooms, thyme, and rosemary.
- Slice the beef thinly and layer it generously on hoagie rolls with sautéed mushrooms and drizzled juices. Top with melted cheese.
- Serve with a warm bowl of au jus for dipping.
Notes
Searing the beef creates a flavorful crust, and allowing it to rest after cooking will keep it tender and juicy. Fresh bread enhances both texture and flavor.
