Delightful homemade sardine dog treats that are nutritious and full of flavor for your furry friend.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 can sardines (packed in water or olive oil)
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (like parsley or dill)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic (fresh or powder)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drain the sardines thoroughly and place them in a mixing bowl. Use a fork to gently mash them up until you achieve a spreadable consistency.
  3. Add the flour to the bowl, followed by the egg and chopped fresh herbs. If you are using garlic, add it here, too.
  4. Mix everything thoroughly until you have a dough-like consistency. You may need to add a bit more flour if the mixture seems too wet.
  5. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about half an inch thick.
  6. Cut into fun shapes using cookie cutters, if desired.
  7. Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 20–25 minutes, or until they start to turn golden brown.
  8. Let them cool completely before giving them to your furry friend.

Notes

These treats store well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or can be frozen for longer storage.
