Delightful bars featuring a buttery crust, juicy apples, and rich salted caramel, perfect for autumn gatherings.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 3 medium fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salted caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×9-inch baking pan and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. While the crust bakes, peel, core, and slice the apples. Mix with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl.
  6. Remove the crust from the oven and layer the apple filling evenly over it.
  7. Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apples.
  8. Prepare the crumble topping by mixing the remaining mixture with a bit more butter until crumbly, then sprinkle over the apples.
  9. Bake for another 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  10. Allow cooling completely in the pan before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.

Notes

Use a good-quality caramel sauce for the best flavor. Patience is key for cooling before slicing.
