Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter (cold)
- 3 medium fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Salted caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×9-inch baking pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- While the crust bakes, peel, core, and slice the apples. Mix with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl.
- Remove the crust from the oven and layer the apple filling evenly over it.
- Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apples.
- Prepare the crumble topping by mixing the remaining mixture with a bit more butter until crumbly, then sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for another 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
- Allow cooling completely in the pan before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
Notes
Use a good-quality caramel sauce for the best flavor. Patience is key for cooling before slicing.
