Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 1 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and half of the crushed candy canes.
  7. Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto a lined baking sheet and sprinkle remaining crushed candy canes on top.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend. Coconut oil can replace butter for a dairy-free version.
