Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ΒΌ cup fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Cheese (mozzarella or provolone)
- Hoagie rolls
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, parsley, and salt and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the Meatballs: Roll the mixture into balls about the size of a golf ball.
- Cook the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
- Make the Sauce: In a separate pot, warm your marinara sauce. Add browned meatballs to the sauce, cover, and simmer on low heat for 20-30 minutes.
- Build the Subs: Slice hoagie rolls and lightly toast them. Place meatballs on each roll, add extra sauce, and top with cheese.
- Melt the Cheese: Place the subs under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve hot with toppings like fresh basil or oregano.
Notes
Handle the meat gently to keep meatballs tender. Don’t rush the browning for enhanced flavor.
