Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • Almond slices for decoration
  • Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the vanilla and almond extracts, mixing well.
  4. Gradually incorporate the flour and baking powder until forming a soft dough.
  5. Take a small piece of dough and roll it into a finger shape, then pinch one end to form a knuckle.
  6. Use almond slices to create the fingernails, pressing them into the dough.
  7. Place the shaped cookies on a lined baking sheet, and bake for about 12-15 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. Once cooled, you can add a touch of red food coloring to give the appearance of “blood” for an extra spooky effect.
