Ingredients
- 4 cups frozen chicken broth
- 2-3 fresh apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- Fresh thyme or rosemary (to taste)
- Brown sugar (optional, for enhancing apple flavor)
- Crushed red pepper (optional, for additional heat)
Instructions
- Start with the broth: In a medium saucepan, combine your frozen chicken broth. Allow it to simmer over medium heat until it’s warmed and has melted completely.
- Sauté the garlic: In a separate skillet, melt the butter or heat a dash of olive oil. Add minced garlic and sauté gently until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown too much.
- Mix the apples: While your garlic is sautéing, core and slice your apples into thin wedges. Add them to the skillet, mixing well with the garlic. A touch of brown sugar can enhance the flavor if desired.
- Combine everything: Once the apples are coated and have begun to soften, pour the warm chicken broth into the skillet. Stir gently to combine, letting everything simmer for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together beautifully.
- Add fresh herbs: In the last few minutes of cooking, stir in your choice of fresh herbs, letting their aroma fill the air.
- Serve: Enjoy warm as a broth, or let it cool down slightly; serve the apples as snacks or a simple side.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth. Garlic can be replaced with granulated garlic, but adjust the quantity due to its potency.
