A nostalgic recipe for Cinnamon Swirl Bread with a creamy custard bath and sweet glaze, perfect for any gathering.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm milk to about 110°F and stir in yeast and a pinch of sugar; let sit until frothy (about 10 minutes).
  2. Sift together flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms, adding flour as needed.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll tightly into a log, pinch to seal edges, and place seam-side down in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For the custard bath, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and sugar.
  11. Once the bread cools slightly, slice and dip pieces in custard mixture, placing back in the pan.
  12. Drizzle with glaze before serving.

Notes

Allow the dough to rise fully for best texture. Use fresh yeast for a better rise.
