Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup maple syrup (preferably pure)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty, about 5-10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix the browned butter with both sugars, then beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and maple syrup to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- For the crumb topping, mix 1 cup flour, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and ¼ cup melted butter; crumble over the batter in the pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack; drizzle warm maple syrup before serving.
Notes
Be careful not to let the butter burn while browning, and allow the cake to set before cutting for perfect slices.
