  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup black cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, black cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift out and cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in chocolate chips or swirling caramel into the batter before baking.
